About Department

Translation is as old as history itself and thus it has been practiced since the human existence and thus it is as old as human being itself. It is a sine qua non for a person or for a nation both to know the outside world and to introduce himself or herself to the outside world. In recent years, as a result of the boom in relations with the outside world together with the influence of globalization, there is an increase in demand for translation and interpretation namely translators and interpreters and accordingly the departments of Translation Studies have gained importance. The departments of Translation Studies or the departments of Translation and Interpreting Studies aiming to train future translators and interpreters for the translation world and provide students with the opportunity to improve themselves in every kind of translation related areas in order to bring qualified translators and interpreters up, form the necessary infrastructure for the maximum benefit to the students with their academic staff constantly updating themselves.

In order to satisfy these increasing translation needs of today, Bartın University has already taken a step to establish the Department of Translation Studies to play a role in the training of future qualified translators and is planning to accept students as soon as possible. Our staff working at Bartın University, in the Department of Translation Studies are well-equipped academic personnel in terms of theory, market and technology areas and they all have the capacity to meet all kinds of needs of the students.

A training including theoretical and practical modules as well as how to get familiar with the CAT (Computer Assisted Translation) tools’ operation logic and the effective usage of these tools is planned in our department. In this way, the students of Translation and Interpreting Studies graduating from our department will have all the abilities and skills to meet any expectation both in academic sense and in the market. Moreover, because our students will be provided with an opportunity to take second or even third language lessons as well as the ones in their own department, our students have a chance to graduate as multilingual.
